Is Family Service of Eastern Nova Scotia the same organization as the Department of Community Services?

No. Family Service of Eastern Nova Scotia is a private, non-profit agency governed by its own Board of Directors. The primary services of the agency include therapy, family life education/programming and options/adoption counselling.

 

Does Family Service of Eastern Nova Scotia have any religious affiliations?

No. Family Service of Eastern Nova Scotia is a non-denominational agency.

 

What are your hours of operation?

Family Service of Eastern Nova Scotia provides service Monday through Friday. Our hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. four days per week, and 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. one day per week. If you require evening hours, please contact your nearest office to determine what day of the week accommodates evening hours.

 

Where are you located?

Family Service of Eastern Nova Scotia has offices from Glace Bay to New Glasgow. Please refer to our map for office locations and directions.

 

Is there a cost for counselling services or programs?

The fee for counselling services is based on a sliding fee scale which takes both family size and family income into consideration. Family Service, however, endeavours to make its services available to everyone. Therefore, no one is denied service due to inability to pay. Likewise, with Family Life Education Programs, the fee may be waived if payment would cause financial strain or would prevent an individual from participating in the program.

 

What are the qualifications of your counsellors?

Family Service of Eastern Nova Scotia employs a number of professionals with social work or counselling designations. Each employee is licensed by their Provincial Regulatory Body.

 

How quickly will I be seen for counselling?

Waitlists for offices usually vary. An average waiting period is generally 2-4 weeks. If individuals are in crisis, we advise them to contact crisis intervention.
