Therapy

Counselling is one of the core services provided by the Agency. In the confidential process of therapy, individuals, couples, families agree to enter into a relationship with a social worker to understand themselves so they may cope better with problems that are adversely affecting their daily functioning.

Some issues are:

  • Individual Concerns
  • Couple Relationships
  • Family Relationships
  • Parenting
  • Separation/Divorce
  • Abuse - sexual, physical, and emotional
  • Aging
  • Grief
  • Coping with - finances, unemployment, poor health, etc.

Agency Social Workers are licensed by the Provincial Regulatory Body.

Stepping Stones

Stepping Stones project runs out of the former People's Store on Commercial Street in Glace Bay. Under the direction of Mary Beth Reid, the program offers pre-school and play activity for children and parents between 8:30 - 4:30, Monday to Thursday. The Stepping Stones Team also includes: Lorna Clarke, Rachel MacNeil and Susan Wadden. To learn more information about the program you can call Mary Beth at (902) 849-2250 or drop in and visit.

.Com is a joint project of Family Service, HRDC and the NS Department of Community Services to provide a computer-based homework/research facility for Junior and Senior High School students in the Glace Bay area. The telephone Pioneers of MTT-Aliant are also participating in this project through the donation of computers. Eugene MacInnis, BED, is the coordinator for the project and can be contacted for further details at (902) 849-0962.
