After Loss/ Growing Through Grief
This course is intended
for people who have experienced major significant losses
in the past 12 -18 months. Focus will be on enabling
the healing process. You will be given the opportunity
to: identify and understand the feelings and issues
involved in loss, work through the related stages of
letting go, and recreate a new future.
STEP
TEEN (Systematic Training For Effective Parenting)
A six week program that
will address the challenges of parenting teenagers in
the 21st century. Topics such as: how to
communicate with you teen effectively, understanding
teenage behaviour, helping your teen make good decisions,
problem solving and building self-esteem in teenagers
will be some of the issues looked at.
Parenting
of Young Children: A Journey Through the Early Years
A six week program designed
to assist parents to strengthen their parenting skills
and enhance their understanding of early childhood development.
Topics include healthy nutrition, effective communication,
discipline and building positive parent-child relationships.

Cooperative
Parenting Through Separation and Divorce
An eight week program designed
to help parents raise their children in a cooperative
environment following separation and divorce. Topics
include: communication, conflict resolution, understanding
children’s behaviour and parent/child relationships.
Stress
Management
A six session educational
program designed to help adults experiencing difficulty
with stress in their lives. Topics will include: the
positive effects of a healthy lifestyle, improving communication,
time management, family and employment factors and stress
coping strategies
Anger
Management
A six session program that
will help participants understand anger identifying
triggers, the anger cycle and anger types. The program
will also provide specific anger management skills.

Women
& Self-Esteem
A six session program designed
to help women understand and enhance their self-esteem.
Topics will include: factors influencing the development
of self-esteem, recognizing and appreciating one’s
strengths and giftedness, decision-making skills, assertiveness
training and the importance of self-nurturing.
Totally
Tuesday
A drop-in lunch time group
for grade 5 and 6 students. The group is fun and interactive
and through games increases leadership skills, social
interaction and peer relationships.
Girl
Power Camps
Four day summer camps with
the overall goal of enhancing self-esteem in young girls.
Topics will include body image, bullying, peer pressure,
assertiveness training and proper nutrition. Arts &
Crafts and recreation are also woven into the program.

Caring
for the Caregiver
An eight week program aimed
at helping care givers who are caring for persons with
Alzheimer Disease or dementia related illness. Topics
include: overview of Alzheimer and dementia related
illness, managing behaviour problems, communication/activity
programming, nutrition, community resources, single
entry, taxation and legal issues.
Mother/Daughter
Choices
A unique program for grade
six girls and their mothers which is designed to prepare
girls for the kinds of decisions they will be making
as they move into Junior High School. The goals of the
program are to encourage communication between mothers
and daughters at this important time in their lives
and to motivate the girls to expand the vision of themselves
and their capabilities. As well, the girls will learn
valuable life skills such as goals setting, problem
solving, decision-making and assertive responsible behaviour.
Refocus
An outdoor,
activity-based program for youth ages 13-16 whose family
may be affected by gambling. Through adventurous, team-building
activities, youth develop important life skills which
build character and resiliency. These skills are transferable
and assist youth in dealing with possible challenges
which may arise in their home environments. ( Referrals
are necessary for participation in the Refocus Program)

A program designed to help parents raise their children in a cooperative environment
following separation and divorce. Topics include: communication, conflict resolution,

Community Education Session Wellness Seminars
Guiding Families
Some of the most difficult people to communicate with can be family members. Guiding Families offers seminars developed to help families cope with issues
by bringing support, awareness, understanding and solution focused skill building to each seminar.
